Living in Weehawken, NJ
Boulevard East, the waterfront and the commute, with the details buyers ask me about.
Weehawken, Hudson County
On top of the cliffs, and right at the river.
Weehawken is really two places: the Heights along Boulevard East, with some of the most famous Manhattan views anywhere, and the newer waterfront below at Port Imperial and Lincoln Harbor. The Lincoln Tunnel starts here.
Getting around
- NY Waterway ferries from Port Imperial and Lincoln Harbor
- Hudson-Bergen Light Rail stops at Port Imperial and Lincoln Harbor
- NJ Transit buses through the Lincoln Tunnel to the Port Authority Bus Terminal
- The Lincoln Tunnel and Route 495 for drivers
The housing stock
- One- to three-family homes on the streets of the Heights
- Apartment, condo and co-op buildings along Boulevard East
- Newer waterfront condos and rentals at Port Imperial and Lincoln Harbor
- View, floor and parking can move the price as much as square footage
Parks and downtown
Hamilton Park sits on Boulevard East above the Hudson, near the site of the 1804 Hamilton–Burr duel. Down by the river, Weehawken Waterfront Park and the Hudson River Waterfront Walkway connect toward Hoboken and Port Imperial. Day-to-day shopping is on Park Avenue and the nearby blocks of Union City and Hoboken.
Schools
Public schools are run by the Weehawken Township School District. For official information on any school, see the NJ DOE School Performance Reports.
What I tell buyers
Co-ops on Boulevard East need board approval and have their own financing rules, so start that conversation early. On the waterfront, compare HOA fees and what they cover. And visit at rush hour: Lincoln Tunnel traffic shapes the whole neighborhood.

Questions I get about Weehawken
Is there a ferry from Weehawken?
Yes. NY Waterway runs ferries from Port Imperial and Lincoln Harbor. Check NY Waterway for current routes and schedules.
What is the difference between a co-op and a condo?
With a condo you own your unit. With a co-op you own shares in a corporation that owns the building, and the board approves buyers. Co-ops often have stricter financing rules and monthly maintenance that includes property taxes.
